Washington-Marion’s Melvin Jones, who plays both quarterback and linebacker for the Indians, has committed to Les Miles and the LSU Tigers.
Jones, a freakish athlete at 6-foot-3 245 pounds, is is listed as a four-star recruit by Scout, Rivals, and 24/7 recruiting services, and is considered the fourth best middle linebacker prospect in the country by 24/7.
“Melvin can play any position on the football field,” W-M coach Freddie Harrison said. “He can play center, quarterback, running back. You’d be surprised how soft his hands are. He can play tight end, receiver. The only position I would not put him at is cornerback. I’d put him at any position on the field but cornerback.”
“It was mainly because I wanted to stay close to home,” Jones told TigerBait.com. “I just decided to call Coach Miles and commit to him. I just thought I was ready.”
Jones is the Tigers’ 17th commitment and first linebacker of the 2013 class. LSU has moved up to No. 6 in the latest Rivals team recruiting rankings.
