LSU junior linebacker Kevin Minter was one of 15 SEC players named to the preseason watch list for the Dick Butkus Award, presented annually to the nation’s top linebacker.
The Collegiate Butkus Award watch list includes 51 candidates from 38 universities. Manti Te’o of Notre Dame is the only returning finalist, after having won the inaugural High School Butkus Award in 2008.
Minter is one of the strongest players on the LSU team. After he redshirted his true freshman season in 2009, in May 2010 he squatted a team-best 545 pounds. The 6’2, 242 linebacker from Georgia will man the middle linebacker spot for the Tigers. He ranked fifth on the team in total tackles with 61, and added 3.5 tackles for loss, one sack, one fumble recovery, and one forced fumble.
