The LSU football team continues to pile up preseason individual award recognition as four Tigers have been named to the Rotary Lombardi Award watch list.
Defensive ends Sam Montgomery and Barkevious Mingo as well as offensive tackles Alex Hurst and Chris Faulk are four of 51 candidates for the award that goes annually to college football’s top lineman.
The Rotary Lombardi Award Watch List is simply used as a reference for the committee as it will be periodically revised until the first round of voting is completed. The winner will be announced on Dec. 5.
Former Tiger All-American defensive tackle Glenn Dorsey won the honor his senior season in 2007.
Mingo and Montgomery were a two-man wrecking crew for a Tiger team ranked #1 for most of the season until a loss to Alabama in the BCS National Championship Game. And it wasn’t just their physical statures that were so alike. Their 2011 individual numbers were eerily similar as they combined for 86 tackles – including 28.5 for loss — and 17 quarterback sacks.
Hurst and Faulk will team up to form one of the top offensive tackle tandems in the nation this season. Hurst was a first team All-SEC selection as a junior, recording 71.5 knockdowns on the year. Faulk made second team All-SEC and ranked third on the team with 73.5 knockdowns.
